Effects of Coronavirus on Call Centers | Apply DOT OSP License Registration

The (DOT) Department of telecom has slumped some norms to expedite work from home till April 30 amid the Covid-19 epidemic. This incorporates exclusion for the security deposit requirement and WHF facility agreement for OSP (IT-enabled and non-IT services corporations), and the requirement for the permission of providing the facility.

Nasscom and the IT industry leaders have urged the central government to relax the rules and regulations for facilitating the business persistence that seems to be the biggest challenge for the private sector. Several exemptions are being offered which includes the need for the authorized (PPVPN) service providers provisioned secured VPN. VPN stands for the virtual private network.
It says, at this time the OSPs are allowed to utilize the secured VPNs which are configured using the static IP address for a linkage between OSP center and Home agent position with pre-determined spots. Moreover, this document states that the agents working from home will be considered as OSP’s Extended Agent position.
The document also says that in case of contravention of WFH terms by an agent or employee or by any OSP during this period, the OSP will be liable for a penalty of 5 lakh per WFH in violation and certain cases; the OSP registration can also be canceled.
The Coronavirus outbreak has infected almost 1.32 lakh people across the world. While the pandemic has deranged businesses, companies have asked their employees to work from home and using technologies like video-conferencing and telepresence to keep the business continuity.

However, there is the number of companies who are having issues in operating WFH for their staff, due to the compliance and technical requirements under DOT OSP Registration. These include setting up PPVPN connection, sharing pre-determined regions of extended agents, offering monetary security payment, etc.

In this scenario, companies must encourage their staff members to support the use of video conferencing and telepresence for seamless commitment with a minimal business interruption.
